Sources and study details

* Original source. Sheikh et al. (2015), J Clin Exp Dermatol Res 6:253, Results and Figure 2. Randomized open-label multicenter trial of MorrF lipid solution (5% minoxidil plus 0.1% finasteride), 1 mL twice daily for 24 weeks in adult men with androgenetic alopecia. 88.9% had slightly, moderately or greatly increased growth by photographic assessment; 60.0% with minoxidil alone. This is the studied topical formulation, not any prescribed oral combination or every compounded vehicle/strength. Patient assessment scores were also collected; not recast as response percentages. This study followed men using minoxidil and finasteride together on the scalp.

** For 94.1%: Hu et al., 2015. The combination arm used oral finasteride 1 mg daily plus topical minoxidil 5%; 152 of 160 Chinese men assigned to this arm were evaluated at 12 months. This was a two-product regimen, not a test of LIV's compounded topical blend. Original study.

Help Center

Find answers to common questions about treatments, results, prescriptions and what to expect. Still have questions?

How does LIV work?

You fill out a short health form online. A licensed provider reviews it and decides if treatment is right for you. If it is, your prescription ships to your door. You answer a few questions before each refill, and you check in every three months. You never have to visit a clinic.

Do I need to see a doctor in person?

No. There is no appointment to book. You answer questions online whenever it suits you. A licensed provider reviews your answers and decides if treatment is right for you. The whole thing takes about five to seven minutes.

How long does it take to get my prescription?

A licensed provider reviews your intake within 48 hours. Once approved and in stock before 1 PM Eastern, the pharmacy ships that day. After approval, delivery usually takes 3 to 5 days. Compounding can add time.

When will my provider review my plan?

Before each refill, tell us how you're doing. Your provider reviews your progress and adjusts your plan as needed. You'll also have a check-in every three months.

Who decides whether this is right for me?

A licensed provider reviews your health form and decides whether treatment is right for you. They choose your dose and how much medicine to prescribe.

What does compounded mean?

Compounded means a licensed pharmacy mixes the medicine for one person. It is not made in large batches. The FDA does not approve compounded medicines for safety, quality or how they are made.

Can I change, skip or cancel my plan?

Yes. You can change your plan, skip a shipment or cancel from your account. If you want to change your treatment or dose, discuss it with your provider.

Is the minoxidil here taken by mouth or put on my scalp?

Your provider decides which form to prescribe based on your health history. This treatment may use a topical, tablets or both. Oral minoxidil is approved for high blood pressure that other medicines cannot manage, not hair growth, and its label carries a boxed warning about serious heart effects. Confirm which form you have been prescribed and how to use it.

Can a topical transfer to someone else in my home?

FDA says it can. Approved finasteride tablets have a coating that keeps the active ingredient off your hands during normal handling. A compounded topical has no coating. So there is a greater risk that applied product transfers to other people, and FDA specifically identifies the risk of transfer to women. Finasteride is also not safe for women who are pregnant or may become pregnant. Follow the handling instructions your provider gives you.
