  • Three actives, three jobs. Minoxidil is the hair active. Its over-the-counter labeling is written by sex as well as strength: one solution is labeled for men only, others as a hair regrowth treatment for women. That labeling covers the top of the scalp and says it is not meant for a receding hairline. Tretinoin helps it soak in. Its approved use is acne, and its labeling says the safety of long term use for other conditions has not been established. Fluocinolone is a steroid labeled for inflamed and itchy skin. Hair loss is not a labeled use for either one.
What does each ingredient do for hair and scalp?

Topical minoxidil helps regrow hair on the top of the scalp. Tretinoin is included to help absorption. Fluocinolone is a steroid used to ease inflammation and itching in certain skin conditions. The three ingredients are compounded in one bottle.

How does LIV Health ensure quality and safety?

Sources and study details

* Women’s 2% minoxidil solution Drug Facts, clinical-use results. Mostly White women ages 18 to 45 with mild to moderate hair loss; sample size is not stated in the consumer label. Self-reported moderate regrowth, not a percentage increase in hair count. The trial strength may differ from the prescribed product. Results as restated on the Meijer/Perrigo store-brand label (ANDA 075357). Comparison for the 19% result: Women using 2% topical minoxidil reported moderate hair regrowth after eight months, compared with 7% using placebo. For 66%: Original source. Bazzano et al., JAAD (1986), abstract. The abstract reports terminal hair regrowth in 66% of participants studied after one year of topical tretinoin plus 0.5% minoxidil. The study included 56 subjects overall; the abstract does not give the combination-arm denominator or sex-specific results. Preliminary ingredient-combination findings, not results for LIV’s three-ingredient formulas or their prescribed strengths. Fluocinolone was not part of either study. These studies followed people using topical minoxidil, either on its own or with tretinoin.

Help Center

Find answers to common questions about treatments, results, prescriptions and what to expect. Still have questions?

How does LIV work?

You fill out a short health form online. A licensed provider reviews it and decides if treatment is right for you. If it is, your prescription ships to your door. You answer a few questions before each refill, and you check in every three months. You never have to visit a clinic.

Do I need to see a doctor in person?

No. There is no appointment to book. You answer questions online whenever it suits you. A licensed provider reviews your answers and decides if treatment is right for you. The whole thing takes about five to seven minutes.

How long does it take to get my prescription?

A licensed provider reviews your intake within 48 hours. Once approved and in stock before 1 PM Eastern, the pharmacy ships that day. After approval, delivery usually takes 3 to 5 days. Compounding can add time.

When will my provider review my plan?

Before each refill, tell us how you're doing. Your provider reviews your progress and adjusts your plan as needed. You'll also have a check-in every three months.

Who decides whether this is right for me?

A licensed provider reviews your health form and decides whether treatment is right for you. They choose your dose and how much medicine to prescribe.

What does compounded mean?

Compounded means a licensed pharmacy mixes the medicine for one person. It is not made in large batches. The FDA does not approve compounded medicines for safety, quality or how they are made.

Can I change, skip or cancel my plan?

Yes. You can change your plan, skip a shipment or cancel from your account. If you want to change your treatment or dose, discuss it with your provider.

Is topical minoxidil labeled differently for women?

Yes. Approved over-the-counter minoxidil labels differ by sex and strength. One solution is labeled for men only. Products labeled for women cover hair regrowth on the top of the scalp, not a receding hairline. Your dropper is compounded and does not share those products' FDA-approved labels.

What is fluocinolone doing in a hair blend?

It is a steroid. Its labeling covers relief of inflamed and itchy skin conditions that respond to steroids, and the scalp oil form is labeled for scalp psoriasis in adults. Hair loss is not a labeled use for either one. Your provider considers your scalp symptoms when deciding whether to include it; its approved uses do not establish a hair-growth benefit.
