Why is finasteride not offered to me?

Its label covers men only. Finasteride 1 mg is FDA-approved to treat male pattern hair loss in men. Women who are or may become pregnant must avoid it. Finasteride changes how the body turns testosterone into another hormone. In pregnancy, that can cause birth defects in the sex organs of a male baby. If someone in your home takes it, let them handle any crushed or broken tablets.

Where on the scalp is topical minoxidil labeled to work?

Approved over-the-counter topical minoxidil products are labeled for the top of the scalp, not a receding hairline or frontal baldness. Tell your provider where you notice thinning so they can recommend an option for that area.
