Less Dryness, More Comfortable Sex

Less discomfort can make a difference in your day and during intimacy.

8 weeks

Women said sex was less painful after eight weeks of using vaginal estradiol.*

85.5%ofwomen

85.5% of women after menopause had relief from vaginal symptoms while using vaginal estradiol.**

Sources and study details

* For 8 weeks: Original source. Kroll et al., Menopause (2018), primary paper PMC5779318, Results and Figure 2A. Sexually active postmenopausal women with moderate to severe pain during sex as most bothersome symptom. Modified ITT estradiol n=239 and vehicle n=233. Studied 0.003% estradiol cream, 15 micrograms/application, daily for 2 weeks then three times weekly for 10 weeks. At week 8 mean severity change on 0 to 3 scale was -1.5 with estradiol and -1.2 with vehicle (P=0.004); improvement also at week 12. Group improvement, not guaranteed onset or complete resolution for every woman. Study instructions are not prescribing advice. This study followed women using vaginal estradiol cream after menopause.

** For 85.5%: Simunic et al., 2003, 12-month randomized trial of 1,612 women, with 828 assigned vaginal estradiol. Success combined patient-reported and clinically assessed vaginal-atrophy symptoms; the placebo rate was 41.4%. Tablets were used daily for two weeks and twice weekly thereafter. This was 25 mcg; your prescribed product and strength may differ. Original study. The 85.5% figure is an overall treatment-response assessment combining patient-reported symptoms and clinical signs of vaginal atrophy (tissue thinning); it does not mean all women became symptom-free or that each symptom improved by 85.5%.

Help Center

Find answers to common questions about treatments, results, prescriptions and what to expect. Still have questions?

How does LIV work?

Start with an online health form. Labs are required for this treatment. A licensed provider reviews your information and decides whether to prescribe. If prescribed, your medicine is delivered to you. You'll complete a short questionnaire before each refill and check in every three months.

Do I need an in-person appointment?

Your intake starts online, without booking an appointment. Labs are required for this treatment. A licensed provider reviews your history and results before prescribing.

How long does it take to get my prescription?

A licensed provider reviews your intake within 48 hours. Your labs must also be reviewed before approval. Once approved and in stock before 1 PM Eastern, the pharmacy ships that day. After approval, delivery usually takes 3 to 5 days.

When will my provider review my plan?

Before each refill, tell us how you're doing. Your provider reviews your progress and adjusts your plan as needed. You'll also have a check-in every three months.

Who decides whether this is right for me?

A licensed provider reviews your health history and lab results. They decide whether treatment is right for you, choose your dose and how much to prescribe, and review your plan before refills.

What does compounded mean?

Compounded means a licensed pharmacy mixes the medicine for one person. It is not made in large batches. The FDA does not approve compounded medicines for safety, quality or how they are made.

Can I change, skip or cancel my plan?

Yes. You can change your plan, skip a shipment or cancel from your account. If you want to change your treatment or dose, discuss it with your provider.

How is the insert different from an estradiol pill?

Vagifem is approved for thinning and inflammation of vaginal tissue due to menopause. Estradiol tablets have approved uses for moderate to severe hot flashes, night sweats and vaginal symptoms. For vaginal symptoms alone, the tablet label says to consider a topical vaginal product first. Your provider can explain which form fits your symptoms and health history.

What risks does this label name?

The Vagifem label carries an FDA boxed warning. The label names cancer of the womb lining, and overgrowth of that lining, when estrogen is used alone. It names stroke, blood clots in the legs and lungs, and heart attack. It also names probable dementia and invasive breast cancer reported with estrogen plus progestin. Share your health history so your provider can explain how these risks apply to you.
