Fuller-looking hair starts with regrowth. Here’s what topical minoxidil has shown for women.

19%ofwomen

60%ofwomen

60% of women had slight to moderate hair regrowth after 32 weeks of using 2% topical minoxidil.**

Sources and study details

* Women’s 2% minoxidil solution Drug Facts, clinical-use results. Mostly White women ages 18 to 45 with mild to moderate hair loss; sample size is not stated in the consumer label. Self-reported moderate regrowth, not a percentage increase in hair count. The trial strength may differ from the prescribed product. Results as restated on the Meijer/Perrigo store-brand label (ANDA 075357). Comparison for the 19% result: Women using 2% topical minoxidil reported moderate hair regrowth after eight months, compared with 7% using placebo. Women using 2% topical minoxidil reported regrowth after eight months.

** For 60%: Whiting and Jacobson, 1992. Nine of 15 women completing topical minoxidil treatment had minimal to moderate growth; six of 13 placebo completers also showed minimal to moderate growth. The trial enrolled 33 women ages 22 to 44. This is the treated-group response, not a 60% advantage over placebo or an oral-minoxidil result. Original study.

Help Center

Find answers to common questions about treatments, results, prescriptions and what to expect. Still have questions?

How does LIV work?

You fill out a short health form online. A licensed provider reviews it and decides if treatment is right for you. If it is, your prescription ships to your door. You answer a few questions before each refill, and you check in every three months. You never have to visit a clinic.

Do I need to see a doctor in person?

No. There is no appointment to book. You answer questions online whenever it suits you. A licensed provider reviews your answers and decides if treatment is right for you. The whole thing takes about five to seven minutes.

How long does it take to get my prescription?

A licensed provider reviews your intake within 48 hours. Once approved and in stock before 1 PM Eastern, the pharmacy ships that day. After approval, delivery usually takes 3 to 5 days. Compounding can add time.

When will my provider review my plan?

Before each refill, tell us how you're doing. Your provider reviews your progress and adjusts your plan as needed. You'll also have a check-in every three months.

Who decides whether this is right for me?

A licensed provider reviews your health form and decides whether treatment is right for you. They choose your dose and how much medicine to prescribe.

What does compounded mean?

Compounded means a licensed pharmacy mixes the medicine for one person. It is not made in large batches. The FDA does not approve compounded medicines for safety, quality or how they are made.

Can I change, skip or cancel my plan?

Yes. You can change your plan, skip a shipment or cancel from your account. If you want to change your treatment or dose, discuss it with your provider.

Why is topical minoxidil labeled differently for women?

Because the approvals are sex-specific. Approved over-the-counter topical minoxidil is labeled product by product, and the labeling covers form as well as strength. Some products are labeled for men only; others are labeled for women. Your provider considers that labeling and your history when deciding what is right for you.

What part of the scalp is the labeling written for?

The top of the scalp, also called the crown. Approved over-the-counter topical minoxidil is not labeled for frontal baldness or a receding hairline.
